Yes, it sure has been a while but today, I am here to write about the Chinese New Year celebration that took place a few months ago. During that memorable celebration, the class enjoyed many different shows and activities such as a speech by our principal Mr. Poh, many different showcases from various CCAs, a comedy skit, and a lion dance; however, I will be focusing on what I feel was the most memorable activity for the majority of us.

The idea of clay sculpting was initially very foreign to me. I was surprised and curious to learn how to make the adorable tiger figures simply from colored clay balls and a toothpick. As I watched the instructor work his magic with the clay, I slowly understood that just by creatively rolling the clay to form a shape and making textures with the toothpick, it was possible to make a simple clay structure with enough effort.

This part of the celebration was very memorable. The making of these clay models may not be much, but they are part of Chinese culture and helped bring out the festive spirit of Chinese New Year. It also helped us learn a new skill and perhaps even spark a new interest of creating clay figures in some. This activity also allowed us to get creative with the designs that we could make, with some of us relying only on our imagination to shape whatever figure they wanted, such as planes or video game characters, without any instruction manual or guidance.

Below, we have a few examples of the clay models that our very own classmates created!

Here, we have a photo of some of our classmates showcasing their hard work! These are but a few examples of what our class was able to create in just over an hour. Below are photos of our classmates very focused on modeling the clay.

Here are the works of some of our talented classmates!

Finally, the whole class took a group photo at the end of the day showing off our hard work.

I am sure that everybody enjoyed their experience during this CNY celebration, even with the limitations that have been set due to the covid-19 pandemic, through the fun and enriching activities that were prepared for us during this festival. Thank you for reading my highlight on a memorable experience during the Chinese New Year Celebrations!
